Have you ever wished there was an Orton Gillingham for math? Looking for Math Therapy but unable to find an in person tutor? Made For Math is a company that provides specialized multisensory math instruction through live online tutoring for 3rd grade through Algebra 1. They specifically cater to students with dyscalculia, dyslexia, autism, ADHD, and other learning differences that have made traditional math teaching or tutoring ineffective.
I am really impressed with what I have seen from Made For Math. They use a concrete-representational-abstract approach based on Marilyn Zecher’s Multisensory Math and math lesson plans written by Dr. Joyce Steeves of Johns Hopkins University. These lessons focus on systematic explanation and hands on demonstration. Although the tutoring is done online, they mail each student a giant box of math manipulatives to use during lessons. As Marilyn Zecher said, “when the hands are engaged, so is the attention.”
Tutoring is one on one, customized to each child, and recorded. Sessions can be 25 minutes or 55 minutes long.
