Racko is a classic card game originally released in 1956 and still popular today. It is a strategy game that uses the math skill of comparing and ordering numbers. The game is easy to teach and learn, fun to play, and equally enjoyable with 2-4 players.
Each player receives 10 cards to begin the game. They must place each card as it is received into their rack without changing the order. The objective is to create a sequence of numbers from lowest to highest. On a player’s turn he may choose to take either the top card from either the deck or from the discard pile. He then discards one card from his rack and inserts the new card in its place.
The first player to get 10 cards in ascending order calls “Rack-O!” and wins the hand. Traditional rules have this player score 75 points and other players score 5 points for each number in correct order. The game then continues until one player scores 500 points. This accounts for the stated playing time of 45 minutes. However when using the Racko card game in class I typically only have kids play one round.
Variations
There is a Racko Plus variation which includes bonus cards (Draw 2, wild, etc.) and special rules for some of the number cards, but I have only seen this one for sale on eBay.
